Family Essential Cycling Skills is a 2.5 hour practical training module for families to develop their confidence cycling together. It is designed so that parents/guardians and their children can cycle together safely as a group.
The sessions are tailored to meet the needs of the family. Examples of this may be:
You don’t need any specific skills other than the desire to be more confident on your bicycle.
Courses last up to 2.5 hours
You should have road worthy bicycles, and any equipment you intend to use for carrying children including seats or tag-alongs
There is no minimum age for the children participating (provided they can cycle or are in a child seat / trailer) but at least one adult should be present
Please contact your nearest provider for details. Some providers are funded to deliver courses for free, whilst some will have a charge
Once you have completed Family Essential Cycling Skills you should have improved confidence to start travelling by bike but the key is to practice what you have learned to grow your confidence.
